Civil Engineering and Construction

The Civil Engineering and Construction research group specialises in the multi-disciplinary branches of Civil Engineering and Construction subject areas, including Construction Management, Structural Engineering, Construction Materials, Water Resources Engineering, Project Management, Geotechnical Engineering and Construction Technology. 

Current core activities and interests of the group include:

  • Sustainable construction materials 
  • Supply chain management in construction
  • Building Information Modelling (BIM) for Facilities Management
  • NetZero retrofit strategies for high density buildings
  • Readiness of Construction industry for Artificial Intelligence (AI) adoption
  • Retrofitting of deteriorated reinforced-concrete structures
  • Computational and experimental investigation of reinforced concrete 
  • Advanced finite element analysis of FRP-retrofitted reinforced concrete structures
  • Repair and restoration of historic buildings and sites 
  • Structural interaction of light-gauge steel and other construction materials
  • Development of new cladding systems for roof and walls
  • Wind load assessment on permanent and temporary structures using wind tunnel testing
  • Regeneration of small-scale hydraulic structures and hydropower sites
  • Nanoindentation study of natural and engineering materials
  • Risk analysis and retrofitting of the retaining structures, geohazard and geomaterials
  • Uncertainty analysis in the geotechnical context
